Welcome to Kindergarten!

Welcome to the Kindergarten class blog!  I'm so glad you came to visit!  I will use this blog to keep you informed on upcoming events, class news, and other important information.  There is no need to subscribe to it.  I will email you when I post something new.

Items your child will need for Kindergarten:
Water Bottle (with a spill-proof top...the kind with a flip-up top and a straw work well)
Gym shoes (to be left at school for Physical Education class)

Extra set of underwear, pants, and socks (in a Ziploc bag with your child's name on it.)
One pair of ear buds/headphones in a baggy labeled with name

1" Hard Cover Clear View WHITE Binder (clear sleeve on the front cover)
Box of 24 count crayons
Pack of glue sticks (Elmer's please)
Four pack of black, skinny, EXPO dry erase markers

3 x 3 Post-It Notes

Your child does not need his/her own pencil box.  We share crayons, glue sticks, scissors, etc...

I will be sending out a Sign Up Genius soon with some other helpful items for the classroom.

Please bring the school supplies (except the water bottle) to Kindergarten Open House on Tuesday, August 21.
Thanks so much!  See you soon! :)

Last Day of School!

We had a great last day of school!  We took a class photo today and compared it to our class photo from September.  Wow!  They have grown up so much!  We celebrated the end of the school year with the rest of the Bauer staff and students at the Flag Lowering Ceremony.  The kids performed patriotic songs and all together we sang the Star Spangled Banner.  We said the Pledge of Allegiance as Mr. Doezema lowered the flag to close the school year, and what a wonderful year it has been. :)

Field Trip:
Thank you so much to all of the chaperones who attended the field trip!  It was a beautiful day and the kids had a great time at Hemlock Crossings and Hager Park.  At the nature center, we divided into five different groups, each with our own tour guide.  Each group had a similar, yet difference experience exploring in the woods and learning about nature.  There were lots of mosquitos!  Hopefully your child didn't come home with too many bug bites!  Here are some photos from our trip!

Reading:
This past week we began to read folktales.  The difference between fairy tales and folktales is that fairy tales have magic and folktales do not.  We will continue reading folktales and focusing on characters, setting, problem, and solution this week.

Writing:
In writing we continue to work on personal narratives.  They have been doing a great job focusing on one "small moment" in their writing!  We will wrap up our small moment stories at the beginning of this week.  Then, we will do some reflection writing about our year in Kindergarten.

Word Study:
We have been practicing our phonics skills by doing sentence dictation.

Math:
This past week we spent time reviewing math skills and then took our end of the year cumulative math assessment.
