Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast:
🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼
To all those who have generously given their time and effort by volunteering at Bauer Elementary this year, the BES Staff would like to invite you to a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast. Thursday, May 24th 9:00am-10:30am in the Teacher's Lounge. Whether you have made copies, read with students, organized events or countless other things, we want to thank YOU! Please join us for this open house style breakfast.

Thank You:
I want to extend a huge thank you to our Bauer Parent Club.  They funded an awesome assembly on Friday.  All of Bauer was entertained by the music and storytelling of Gemini.  Another huge thank you goes to our parent club for planning a wonderful teacher appreciation week.  We were spoiled with treats every day, a yummy luncheon, and somehow we all won a prize on Friday.  I know many of you contributed to the luncheon, so thank you.

Field Trip:
Our class field trip is scheduled for Friday, June 1.  We will leave school around 9:15am and go to Hemlock Crossings Nature Center in West Olive.  Then, we will head to Hager Park in Jenison for lunch and to enjoy some time outside.  Please pack a sack lunch for your child.  We will return to school at 2pm.  If you would like to be a chaperone for our trip, please let me know.  Also, you must complete a Volunteer Background Check Form through Hudsonville Public Schools' website if you have not already done so during this school year.

Reading:
This week we continued to practice our Reader's Theater script based on the book, The Little Red Hen.  We have been practicing sounding and acting like our characters.  Next week we will begin a new unit on Fairy Tales.  We will use fairy tales to focus on story elements and retelling.

Writing:
In writing, we wrapped up our opinion writing unit by writing about our favorite holiday.  Next week we will spiral back to personal narrative writing.

Word Study:
This week we learned that "s" can make 3 different sounds.  We also learned 3 spellings for the sound /sh/.

Math:
This week in math, we made teen numbers using base ten blocks. We also compared two numbers and labeled them as greater than and less than.  Then, we crossed some out to make equal groups.  We continue to practice solving subtraction story problems too.
