Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast:
🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼
To all those who have generously given their time and effort by volunteering at Bauer Elementary this year, the BES Staff would like to invite you to a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast. Thursday, May 24th 9:00am-10:30am in the Teacher's Lounge. Whether you have made copies, read with students, organized events or countless other things, we want to thank YOU! Please join us for this open house style breakfast.

Field Trip:
Our class field trip is scheduled for Friday, June 1.  We will leave school around 9:15am and go to Hemlock Crossings Nature Center in West Olive.  Then, we will head to Hager Park in Jenison for lunch and to enjoy some time outside.  Please pack a sack lunch for your child.  We will return to school at 2pm.  If you would like to be a chaperone for our trip, please let me know.  Also, you must complete a Volunteer Background Check Form through Hudsonville Public Schools' website if you have not already done so during this school year.

Sack lunches are available for field trips!  The cost is $2.50, with free or reduced pricing applied if students are eligible.  The cost is taken out of your child's lunch account.  Sack lunches contain a sandwich, baby carrots, fresh fruit, milk, and a treat.  To order a sack lunch, please email me no later than next week Friday, May 25 and let me know whether your child would like white or chocolate milk.

Reading:
This week we have been reading fairy tales.  We learned that fairy tales have good and evil characters and that they have magic.  Some fairy tales that we have read include Cinderella, The Frog Prince, Rumpelstiltskin, and Jack and the Beanstalk.  Next week we will use fairy tales to focus on story elements and retelling.

Writing:
In writing this week, we began a new unit on personal narratives.  We wrote a shared story about our assembly last week Friday.  Next week, each child will begin writing his/her own personal narrative.  I sent home a "Small Moment Topics" sheet in your child's Friday Folder today.  Please help your child think of some topics that he/she can write about next week.  Thank you for your help!

Word Study:
This week we learned that "ch" can make 3 different sounds.

Math:
This week in math we have been focusing on measurement.  We have been comparing the height, length, weight, and capacity of two objects.  We used words such as longer, shorter, taller, more, and less to describe our comparisons.  To study capacity, we went out to the sandboxes on the playground.  The kids filled one container with sand and poured the sand into another container to determine which container had more/less capacity.
