Field Trip:
Our class field trip is scheduled for Friday, June 1.  We will leave school around 9:15am and go to Hemlock Crossings Nature Center in West Olive.  Then, we will head to Hager Park in Jenison for lunch and to enjoy some time outside.  Please pack a sack lunch for your child.  We will return to school at 2pm.  If you would like to be a chaperone for our trip, please let me know.  Also, you must complete a Volunteer Background Check Form through Hudsonville Public Schools' website if you have not already done so during this school year.

Reading:
This week we read the book, The Little Red Hen, and then we began practicing a Reader's Theater script based on this book.  Each child has a different part.  We have been practicing sounding and acting like our characters.  This week we will continue to practice our lines and work on reading fluently and using body language and facial expressions.

Writing:
In writing this week, we continued to work on opinion writing and using reasons to support our opinions.  We wrote about our favorite playtime activities, favorite recess activities, and chose between two options...the beach or the pool.

Word Study:
This week we reviewed spellings for the sound /oo/.   We learned that "ou" can make 3 different sounds.  We also learned /oi/ spellings and /z/ spellings.

Math:
This week in math, we focused on partners of 9 and solving subtraction story problems.  We also played "The Hiding Zero Game" with our math partners.  This involves putting a number tile on top of the 0 in the number 10 in order to make a teen number.
