Field Trip:
Our class field trip is scheduled for Friday, June 1.  We will leave school around 9:15am and go to Hemlock Crossings Nature Center in West Olive.  Then, we will head to Hager Park in Jenison for lunch and to enjoy some time outside.  Please pack a sack lunch for your child unless you have already ordered one through food service.  We will return to school at 2pm.  Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather and outdoor activities.  Sandals and flip flops are not recommended.  We are asking all Kindergarten students to wear their Bauer BE Awesome T-shirts on Friday so that our students can be easily identified.

Reading:
We have been reading fairy tales and focusing on story elements such as the characters, problem, and solution.  This week we are beginning to read folktales.  The difference between fairy tales and folktales is that fairy tales have magic and folktales do not.  We will continue reading folktales and focusing on retelling this week.

Writing:
In writing we have been working on personal narratives.  Thank you for helping your child with the list of story ideas!  It has helped them SO much!  They have been able to get started writing right away rather than sitting there spending lots of time thinking about what to write.  We are working on including feelings and dialogue in our stories.  We will continue working on our "small moment" personal narrative stories this week.

Word Study:
We have been working on learning how to spell high frequency words such as where, were, when, and why.  We have also been learning how to spell the homophones there, their, and they're.

Math:
In math this past week we reviewed concepts from Unit 5 and took the Unit 5 test.   This week we are spending more time reviewing and we will take our end of the year cumulative math assessment.
