Pizza Hut Book-It:

In your child's Friday Folder, you will find the October Book-It calendar.  Use the calendar to keep track of time spent reading with your child.  At the end of the month, sign the calendar and return it to school.  If there are at least 20 days colored in, I will send the calendar back home with a Pizza Hut certificate for a Personal Pan Pizza for your child.

Halloween Party:

Our Halloween Party will be Tuesday, October 31.  Students will begin putting costumes on at 1:30 p.m. and the party should start by 1:45 p.m.  We're asking for a one time donation of $3 to help cover the expenses for ALL class parties this year.  Please send money in an envelope labeled "Party Money" to school by October 6.  If you would like to volunteer or help at the party or to donate, please let me know!  We always welcome extra sets of hands.

Eagle Pride Day:

Some high school students came to Bauer today for a Pep Assemly!  Here are some photos and a couple videos from their visit.

This week in Kindergarten...

Writing Workshop:

In writing workshop this week, we have been drawing and writing stories together on whiteboards.  We have been thinking of a shared experience, drawing a picture, and then writing a sentence all together.  This is going really well!  It is a great way to teach them how to listen for the sounds in the words but also make sure that they are spelling words correctly.  We are also able to focus on correct letter formation.

Math:

This week in math we focused on comparing numbers.  Students used their number parade and math tiles to compare two numbers on a comparing mat.  They worked with a partner and took turns being the "teacher" and the "student."  We also talked about the differences between squares and rectangles this week.

Reading Workshop:

In Reading Workshop this week, each student got his/her own book bin and filled it with books!  Students also got to sit in their own quiet reading spot on the floor in the classroom.  We have been focusing on the parts of a book this week.  We practiced looking for the front cover, back cover, words, pictures, title, title page, author, and illustrator.

  • It was a HOT morning for the Walk-a-thon, but it was a lot of fun!  We were able to drink lots of water and eat candy as we walked (and ran!) around the track, and we enjoyed a cool popsicle for a treat afterward.  Thank you so much to all the parents who came to help out and support us!  Thanks also for all of your donations!!  The last day to turn in pledge envelopes is next week Friday, September 29.

This week in Kindergarten...

Writing Workshop:
  • In writing workshop, we are planning our stories across our fingers and then sharing stories out loud with a partner.  This week we began drawing pictures of our stories too.
Math:
  • Our first math unit is all about counting and cardinality.  We have been counting and drawing objects.  We have also been putting our number parade in order from 1-10 and then using our red and blue tiles to show "partners" of 5, 6, and 7.

Constitution Day:
  • On Monday, we learned that the Constitution is the supreme law of our country and we are citizens of the United States.  We made a citizen craft in honor of Constitution Day!
