Reading: 
This week we continued studying characters.  We have been comparing the adventures and experiences of characters in different books.  For example, we compared the experiences of the character, Trixie, in Knuffle Bunny and Knuffle Bunny Too.  

Writing:
In writing this week, we started a new unit on opinion writing.  We talked about the difference between facts and opinions.  We will also learned how to use reasons to support our opinions.  Here is my example...



Word Study:
This week we learned 5 spellings for the sound /oo/.   


Math:
This week in math, we focused on partners of 10 and solving subtraction story problems.  We also played "The Unknown Partner Game" with our math partners.  The kids have to cover their eyes while their math partner sets up for them.

Reading: 
This week we continued studying characters.  We have been making connections to the characters feelings, actions, and problems.  Connections give us a deeper understanding of characters.   

Writing:
In writing this week, we finished our informational writing unit.  Each child chose their favorite non-fiction booklet to fix and fancy up by coloring the pictures.  I collected these and will be grading them for the end of the year report card.  Next week we will start a new unit on opinion writing.  We will begin by talking about the difference between facts and opinions.  We will also learn how to use reasons to support our opinions.  

Word Study:
This week we reviewed /aw/ spellings and learned five different spellings for /l/.





Math:
This week in math, we focused on partners of 10 and on showing a teen number as a group of ten and extra ones.

Reading:
 
This week we began a new unit on studying characters.  We are reading some books with great characters (such as Elephant and Piggie).  So far, we are learning about characters by the way they look, the things they say, and through what other characters do.     

Writing:
In writing this week, we continued with our informational writing unit.  Many students have finished with their book about turtles and are working on their own informational book about their chosen topic.  Thank you for your help with the planning web at home!  We will finish this writing unit this week and begin a unit on opinion writing later in the week.  

Word Study:
This week we learned five different spellings for /aw/.




Math:
This week in math, we focused on partners of 7.  We also spent two days reviewing for our test.  We took the Unit 4 test on Friday.
