Reading:
We began learning about non-fiction books this week.  We talked about the differences between fiction and non-fiction books and added some non-fiction books to our book bins.

Writing:
This week we worked on writing small moment (personal narrative) stories.  We also learned how to use a checklist to make sure that we have completed our stories.  Some items on our checklist include, "I used a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence, I used finger spaces, I told the setting, etc..."  Next week we will finish up personal narrative writing and begin How-To writing.

Word Study:
This week we focused on different spellings for the /ai/ sound.  We learned that there are eight different spellings for /ai/!

Math:
On Tuesday, we did "Candy Heart" math.  I gave each child a box of candy hearts.  They had to sort the candy hearts by color and then graph them.  Then, they could eat them!  We also took the Unit 3 test this week.  Look for it to come home in your child's folder next week Friday.

On Wednesday, it was our 100th day of school, so the kids each finished this sentence, "I wish for 100..." during writing time.  They came up with some great ideas!  On Thursday, we worked more on our small moment stories.  Next week we will wrap up our unit on small moments (personal narratives.)

Word Study:
This week we learned different sounds for the "ea" spelling.  The picture shows what each child wrote on his/her whiteboard.

Math:
On Wednesday, we practiced counting all the way up to 100 with the objects that you sent in.  We made piles of ten and then counted by tens to make 100!  On Thursday, we completed the Unit 3 review pages in our math books to prepare us for the test.  We will take the test next week.
