Gingerbread House Decorating Party:
On Friday, December 8, our Kindergarten class will be having a special event!  Each child will make a small gingerbread house.  I am asking for your child to have an adult with him/her from 2:00-2:50pm.  This can be a mom, dad, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or family friend.  (Please make other arrangements for younger siblings).  Together, the adult and your child will use a milk carton, graham crackers, frosting, and candy to make a gingerbread house.  (I will make a google doc sign up sheet for items needed later in the week.)

Writing:
We continue to write like scientists!  We have been observing, drawing, labeling, and writing sentences about fall objects.  We have one more week left in this unit.

My example

Math:
In Math, we wrapped up Unit 2 and took a test.  Look for your child's test to come home in his/her folder on Friday.  The focus of our next unit is teen numbers and seeing them as ten and ones.

Each day we have also been focusing on a number of the day.  We are working on showing that number in various ways.  Here is a photo of all the ways that we used to show the number 10.

Reading:
In Reading, we have been focusing on looking for the setting in books.  We also continue to spend time reading short booklets with our partners.

Writing:
We are writing like scientists this month!  This week we made an "Apples" booklet together.  First, we observed the apple, next we drew a picture, and then we labeled the picture.  Finally, we wrote a sentence.  We have one more sentence to go!  After that, we will move on to observing, drawing, labeling, and writing sentences about fall items.  Thank you for your help with sending those in!  We already observed our leaves with magnifying glasses and described them with a partner.  By the way, our smart word at Bauer this month is "Describe."  It goes perfectly with our writing unit!

Math:
In Math this week, we worked on seeing the +1 pattern in numbers 1-10.  We also worked on identifying triangles and writing numbers 9 and 10.

Reading:
In Reading this week, we read the book, Chicken Little, and focused on the characters.  We described the characters and compared Chicken Little with Foxy Loxy.  We read this book several times this week, and the students enjoyed reading along!

Writing:
We began writing like scientists this week!  We first talked about what scientists do.  One of the things scientists do is make observations.  We made an anchor chart about properties to to help us with our observations.  We will use this chart throughout our unit as we study our fall items, draw them, and use descriptive words to write about them.

To help us prepare for this unit, please send in ONE leaf in a baggie labeled with your child's name (due Tuesday, November 7.)

Also, I need your help collecting an assortment of fall items for this writing unit (such as pumpkins, gourds, leaves, acorns, feathers, etc...)  I would like each table to have their own basket of fall items to write about.  Fall items are needed by Friday, November 10.  Thanks so much!

Math:
In Math, we continue to work on building number sense for numbers 6-10.  One day this week, we used pennies to represent numbers, making sure to use a five-group when appropriate.
